Get The NFL The F*ck Outta Here!

Keeping it a buck, I’m having a REALLY hard time holding my anger at bay, son. I mean, organizations like the NFL aren’t even trying to hide their bigotry, man. At this point, I truly hope the (mostly Black) players understand what’s going on here: the team owners don’t give a FUCK about racial injustice, fam. All in all, by approving a policy that forces players to stand for the National Anthem, Roger Goodell and company have effectively spit on the idea of a peaceful protest.

Ok, for those who are unaware, the NFL just pulled some DEFCON 1 fuckery, bruh. So, the owners unanimously voted for a rule that forces all on-field team personnel to stand for the anthem. Basically, if any player or staff member is on the field and doesn’t stand, they will be fined. Furthermore, if anybody wants to “exercise” their right to protest, they have to stay behind in the locker room. *Sigh* The league has essentially trampled on the First Amendment, son. They’ve taken away people’s ability to freely express themselves.

Look, let’s just cut the nonsense, man. On the real, giving folks the “option” to stay in the locker room is basically their way of saying “we don’t want anybody to see this little protest.” At this point, I don’t know how many times I’ve written about this, fam. But, the call to kneel, pioneered by Colin Kaepernick, was NEVER about the fucking flag, bruh. It was NEVER about our troops, son. For God‘s sake, it was a SILENT way to show solidarity with all of the people of color who were and are brutalized by an injustice system. Now, thanks to morons like Donald Trump, the movement has become nothing more than political fodder. All I know is, this country is hell-bent on stifling freedom, folks.

In the end, everyone has a choice to make, son. The American public has to decide if we’re going to keep supporting a valueless dictatorship. The NFL players have to decide if they’re going to remain silent while their rights and beliefs are stepped on. Ultimately, I was done with the NFL last season, man. I mean, I’m a diehard New York Giants fan, but I couldn’t bring myself to watch any of their games, fam. By and by, I can’t lend my support to a league that doesn’t give a flying fuck about racial equality, bruh. Side note, major shout-out to Christopher Johnson, CEO of the New York Jets, for offering to pay any player fines. All I can say is, he’s a real one, people. In any case, fuck the NFL and anybody who supports them, folks. LC out.

P.S. I hope the haters don’t think I haven’t been paying attention to Kaepernick’s collusion case, son. Shit, he’s already uncovered information that several teams viewed him as a starting quarterback. So, we can put that whole “he’s not good enough to play in the league” bullshit to bed, man. Listen, we all know why he doesn’t have a job, fam: the owners wanted to punish the “uppity Negro,” bruh. *Sigh* This country is the fucking worst, people. That is all.

Starbucks: Where Sitting Down Is A Crime

So, I won’t lie, son. The list of shit that Black people can’t do without being harassed just keeps growing, man. I mean, there’s literally NOTHING we can do and NOWHERE we can go without being targeted. This time, a Starbucks in Philadelphia decided to get in on the nonsense, fam. All in all, I won’t blame Starbucks as an organization for what happened to the two wrongfully-arrested Black men. However; everybody who works in that particular store needs to be fired and sued, bruh.

Ok, for those who missed it, here’s how the fuckery went down, son. Now, two Black guys walked into Starbucks and sat down. Apparently, they were there to meet Andrew Yaffe, a real estate developer. The plan was for them to discuss some business opportunities. Anyway, while waiting for Yaffe, one of the men tried to use the bathroom. Since they hadn’t bought anything yet, they were denied entry. From there, a store manager asked both dudes to leave. When they refused, since they were waiting for Yaffe, the manager called the police. Ultimately, when the authorities showed up, both men were arrested for trespassing. Side note, during the arrest, Yaffe actually showed up. In any case, despite explaining to the officers that the men were waiting for him, they were still arrested anyway.

Moving on, a situation like this is yet another example of how Black people are viewed. Basically, regardless of what we’re doing, we’re always treated with hostility. I mean, let’s be real for a second, man. People sit down and chill in Starbucks locations ALL THE TIME! Shit, I’d bet money that right now some dude is on his MacBook, typing up some article that no one is going to read. Why? Because the Starbucks WiFi is always a good look, fam. So, why were these two men treated with such resentment? Hmm, maybe it has something to do with their skin color? Hell, I thought this was a post-racial society, bruh. Side note, I hope everyone can feeeeel the sarcasm in that last sentence.

In the end, it’s admirable that Kevin Johnson, Starbucks CEO, is bothered by this turn of events. It’s also good that the Starbucks patrons were unnerved by this gross injustice. However; none of this solves the real problem, son. Ultimately, the lens through which Black people are viewed is the issue, man. By and by, that is why the store manager’s first inclination was to call the police. At the end of the day, an irrational fear caused an irresponsible reaction. *Sigh* We can’t even enjoy coffee in peace, fam. LC out.

Damn, Golden Krust

So, this may be a very New York City-centric post, son. As a matter of fact, this may be a very Bronx and Brooklyn-centric post, man. All I know is, as a West Indian dude who was raised in NYC, the news of Lowell Hawthorne‘s suicide is shocking, fam. Real talk, Golden Krust is a MAJOR part of my life, bruh. With that being said, if the theories behind the CEO‘s death are true, then this situation is highly tragic, folks.

Ok, before I continue, let me just paint a quick picture. So, in case people don’t know, I’m from the Bronx. On the real, I’m the product of Co-op City through and through, son. In any case, although I lived with my mother, my father also lived in the Bronx on Seymour Avenue. Now, this is notable because his house was a block away from Gun Hill Road, where one of the original Golden Krust locations exists. Needless to say, anytime I visited him, I completely OD’ed on beef patties and oxtail, man. Until this day, I can’t get enough of their food, fam.

Now, outside of my little worldview, Golden Krust has grown into a very successful business. Hawthorne took his family’s patty recipe and created an empire, bruh. As of now, the company has over 100 locations across various states. So, on face value, it seems like everything is going well, son. However; as we’re now learning, it appears that Hawthorne was dealing with a lot of pressure, man.

Apparently, Hawthorne was facing massive tax debt AND was being sued by Robert Wray, a former employee. Now, according to Wray’s suit, he was never paid overtime over an 11-year period. From what I understand, relatives are now stating that Hawthorne began behaving oddly after confessing his financial troubles to them. All in all, everything came to a head on Saturday when he was found dead in his Bronx factory from a gunshot wound to the head. Keeping it a buck, it’s a really fucked up way to go, fam.

Look, in situations like this, I try not to judge people, bruh. However; if Hawthorne’s suicide was over his financial issues, then death doesn’t really solve the problem, son. I mean, the IRS is still going to hit up his company for their money and Wray’s lawsuit will most likely continue. So, even though he’s out of the picture, the problems still remain, man. Furthermore, in addition to grieving his loss, now his loved ones are left holding the bag, fam.

In the end, this is just a sad circumstance, bruh. Ultimately, suicide is always an unfortunate situation, son. By and by, I feel for his family, his friends and the people who worked with him. Being real, I want to say Rest In Peace to Hawthorne, but I find it hard to think of peace when someone dies in such a manner, man. Anyway, I hope all of Golden Krust’s issues get resolved and I hope everyone involved is able to move on, fam. That is all. LC out.
