Amber Guyger Will Probably Go Free

So, before I even begin this post, let me be transparent, son. Real talk, I’m a 34-year-old Black man who doesn’t have a lot of faith in the justice system. I mean, at this point, I’ve lived long enough to see countless examples of the courts failing people of color. With that being said, it looks like history might repeat itself, man. The way I see it, Amber Guyger will probably skate for the murder of Botham Jean.

Ok, for those with shaky memory, Jean was killed by Guyger on September 6, 2018. Now, as the story goes, Guyger, a former Dallas police officer, shot and killed Jean in his own apartment. According to her, since she lived in the apartment below Jean, she thought he was an intruder. In any case, while Jean ate some vanilla ice cream in his own living room, minding his own fucking business, Guyger murdered him.

Now, I’ve always had a problem with Guyger’s story, fam. I mean, either she’s incredibly stupid or just a cold-blooded killer, bruh. Look, for the sake of argument, let’s say she really didn’t realize this wasn’t her apartment. In that case, she was too fucking dumb to notice several clues, son. First, Jean’s red doormat. Second, the apartment number. Third, the fact that her key didn’t fucking work. Frankly, she could’ve realized at any time that this wasn’t her cotdamn place. Instead, she barged into Jean’s place of residence and ended his life.

With all of that being said, the judge may have given Guyger an out, man. Apparently, the judge ruled that Guyger can use the “castle doctrine” defense. Now, this law essentially states that since a home is a person’s castle, they have a right to defend it. Meaning, since she claims that she thought she was in her own apartment, her team can argue for self-defense. All I know is, I have MASSIVE problems with this, fam!

Look, are folks really telling me that this woman can use a “castle” defense for a place that wasn’t even her fucking castle? Like, she can literally take a man’s life in the comfort of his own home and she might be protected? *Sigh* I’m having a hard time keeping my anger at bay, bruh. All I can say is, police are almost never, ever, EVER held accountable for killing us. Even when they’re CLEARLY in the fucking wrong, son.

In the end, I’m probably being a pessimist, man. Ultimately, I can’t definitively say that Guyger is going to walk. However, based on this country’s track record, I’m not putting my faith in the ruling, fam. By and by, it will probably be another instance of a cop getting away with murder. At the end of the day, people of color aren’t safe anywhere, bruh. Not even in our own fucking home. That is all. LC out.

The New George Zimmerman

Man, I’m tired of writing about this shit. I’m legitimately sick and tired of all of this. Honestly, I feel nothing but unbridled anger these days. Day after day, week after week, year after year, Black people have to consistently deal with our community being treated like target practice for biased assholes. Look, fuck the pleasantries here, man. I want Chad Copley to pay a REAL price for what he did to Kouren-Rodney Thomas.

In the latest episode of “Unarmed Black Person Targeted For No Reason,” Thomas was shot and killed by Copley after leaving a party with friends a few houses down. Before the incident, Copley called 911, claimed he was on neighborhood watch and that there were “hoodlums” outside of his house with firearms. He then proceeded to tell the dispatcher he was “locked and loaded” and ready to “secure [the] neighborhood.” After telling the individuals to leave the premises, he fired what he described as a “warning shot,” and ultimately, killed Thomas.

Now, there are MANY things wrong with Copley’s version of events. First, his neighbors have now confirmed there is no neighborhood watch in their community. So, essentially, Copley took it upon himself to be the judge, jury and executioner for his area. Second, where were these firearms Copley claimed to see? As far as what’s been reported, there were no guns found on Thomas, his friends or at the house party they were attending. This is yet ANOTHER example of a White person assuming the worst about someone Black and taking matters into their own hands. Third, Copley apparently fired the fatal shots from inside his garage. Look, let me say that again. Copley shot Thomas from INSIDE his garage. So, let me get this straight. Thomas had no gun, there was no physical altercation and he STILL got shot? What in the flying fuck, man? Why does this bullshit keep happening to us?!

Currently, Copley is being held without bail and could face the death penalty. The sad part is, none of that makes me feel comfortable. People like me have seen individuals like Copley get away with cold-blooded murder too many times now. At this point, are we really supposed to have any faith in the criminal justice system? It’s not like that institution regularly works in our favor, son. From what we know, Copley’s lawyer is going to use the “Stand Your Ground” defense in his trial. However; as several experts have already stated, it should be difficult to prove this claim since it was CLEAR that man was in no physical danger.

Look, ultimately, I’m not going to mince words here. Give this fool the death penalty. I know not everyone is an advocate for this type of punishment, but dammit, I am, man. Either that, or leave him in general population for the rest of his natural life. Cowards like him don’t deserve protection. I’d like to see him be tough under those circumstances, son. Situations like this are exactly why we say Black Lives Matter. Frankly, fuck anyone who doesn’t understand.
