Pusha T OD’d On Drake

Sheesh, it was all good just a day ago, son. I mean, I JUST wrote about how Drake got the upper hand on Pusha T, man. Well, it was good while it lasted, fam. All I know is, Pusha’s “The Story of Adidon” is one of the ROUGHEST diss tracks I’ve ever heard, bruh. Shit, it was direct and HIGHLY disrespectful at the same type, brethren. All in all, this is Hip-Hop, folks. Clearly, battling isn’t for the faint of heart, people.

Ok, for those who missed it, Pusha responded to Drake’s “Duppy Freestyle.” Now, when I say he responded, I mean Pusha went for EVERYONE’S jugular vein, son. My God, I don’t even know where to begin with the disrespect, man. In one long verse, Pusha talked about the frayed union between Drake’s parents and he talked about Drake having a son with a porn star. Hell, he even talked about the fact that Drake’s producer, Noah Shebib, is dealing with a lifelong illness. Side note, I won’t lie, fam, I took offense to those bars about OVO 40. Listen, my mother has multiple sclerosis, so I’m sensitive to that. But, if Drake can make fun of KiD CuDi‘s mental health and if Jay-Z can talk about leaving condoms in Nas‘s babyseat, then I guess all is fair, bruh. But, it’s still insane to say, folks.

In any case, this beef just got VERY personal, son. Apparently, Pusha took it there because Drake simply mentioned Pusha’s fiancée, Virginia Williams, in “Duppy Freestyle.” On one hand, I get it, but I still didn’t expect Pusha to OD the way he did, man. Real talk, if those bars were about me, we’d have to fight, fam. On the real, fuck a rap song, bruh. We’re ABSOLUTELY throwing hands after this, folks.

In the end, I don’t know what else to say, son. Ultimately, if we’re comparing “The Story of Adidon” to “Duppy Freestyle,” then Pusha won this round, man. Shit, I feel like a hypocrite because I was just giving Drake his props yesterday. However, I didn’t expect Pusha to come back like THIS, fam. By and by, Drake MUST respond, bruh. Keeping it a buck, he can’t let Pusha cook after this, people. The impudence is WAY too crazy now, brethren. At the end of the day, we have a REAL battle on our hands, folks. All I know is, Pusha is a MUCH different adversary than Meek Mill. Good day. LC out.

P.S. All jokes aside, Drake needs to explain that photo, son. Seriously, why the fuck was he wearing blackface, man? Look, unless Drake was an extra in Spike Lee‘s Bamboozled, I can’t condone this shit, fam. *Sigh* We need answers, bruh. That is all.

Nas Album Done?!

Now, this is exactly what I’m talking about, son. Look, as soon as Kanye West gets me excited about something, he turns around and does some fuckity-fuck shit. I mean, that’s precisely what happened when he praised resident Fox News lackey, Candace Owens. However, per usual, I’m going to TRY and ignore the bullshit, man. Especially since he tweeted out some more big news, fam: he’s apparently producing on Nas‘ next album. All I know is, if he’s really telling the truth, then I have no idea how to contain my joy, bruh.

Ok, for those who missed it, Kanye is still on a roll when it comes to potential new releases. Now, last week, he promised fresh music from Pusha T, KiD Cudi, Teyana Taylor and himself. Keeping it a buck, that was MORE than enough to get me amped, son. However, Kanye had to one-up himself with the announcement of a new Nas album. Hell, I guess he’s trying to make good on his vow to Barack Obama to make beats for Nasir. In any case, I honestly pray that Ye is not fucking with us, man. Seriously, my heart doesn’t need these kind of palpitations, fam.

Moving on, Kanye also stated that he’s back to chopping samples and making tracks by hand. Side note, he also said he’s making beats in the “sunken place,” but there’s only so much fuckery I can address in one post, bruh. Anyway, I’m super intrigued to hear what “Chop Up The Soul” Kanye sounds like in 2018, son. On the real, I just hope he’s not rusty, man. All in all, I really believe that he was at his best when he was creating on the ASR-10 and MPC, fam. Look those drum machines up, people. Google is everybody’s friend.

In the end, today is a good day, bruh. Ultimately, the prospect of all of this new music is almost too much to handle, son. By and by, May and June can’t come soon enough, man. Viva la good music, pun intended! LC out.

P.S. I also got wind of Kyle Kuzma‘s challenge to Lonzo Ball, son. Apparently, he wants Zo to drop an album on the same day as Nas. *Sigh* This is all because of the stupid ass shit that Zo said about Nas about a year ago. Listen, all I can say is, I’m officially an old head now, man. I swear, I hate these young dudes with a passion, fam. That is all.

The Return Of Kanye West

So, I won’t lie, son. I’m a bit of a hypocrite when it comes to Kanye West. I mean, on one hand, I hate everything he does outside of music. Hence my “I’m Done With Kanye West” post. However, that dude can do no wrong when it comes to these compositions, man. Keeping it a buck, outside of Prince and Michael Jackson, Kanye is my favorite musician ever. Yes, I said EVER, folks! With that being said, I’m fucking HYPED that he’s dropping new records, fam! All in all, June can’t come soon enough, bruh!

Ok, for those who missed it, Kanye has returned to Twitter with a vengeance, son. Look, over the last week or so, he’s been pontificating about the meaning of life and waxing poetically about the design of his clothes. More importantly, he’s been updating us about his musical progress. In any case, he just dropped a lot of bombshells on us about the upcoming schedule for G.O.O.D. Music. All I know is, my brain can’t handle the prospect of the awesomeness on the horizon, man.

So, where do we begin, fam? Ok, basically, from May 25 to June 22, Kanye is dropping a Pusha T album, a solo album, a joint album with KiD CuDi and a Teyana Taylor album. Furthermore, according to both Pusha and Taylor, he’s apparently producing everything. Side note, my guess is he’s really just executive producing their projects. But, if 2 Chainz is right and Kanye is back to making beats himself, I can’t wait to hear the final product, bruh! Anyway, THIS is what I want from Kanye West, son! Not that Kardashian bullshit he’s normally on these days, man.

In the end, nothing else needs to be said, fam. Hell, Kanye is back! What else do we need to know, bruh? Nothing, that’s what. Now, I’m done rambling for the day, son. Let me get out of here and see what this J. Cole album is hitting for, man. Good day. LC out.

My Conflicted Thoughts On Kanye West’s Mental Health

Ain’t this about a bitch, man? Didn’t I just write Kanye West off on Friday? Didn’t I just express my disdain for his endorsement of Donald Trump? Didn’t I just wash my hands of all of the ridiculous antics he’s subjected the public to? Here’s the thing: I still feel the same exact way, son. However; as I’ve shown on this site, I’m also a big proponent of addressing potential mental health issues. With that being said, I’m not sure how to feel about Kanye’s hospitalization yesterday. On one hand, I want him to disappear, along with all of his tomfoolery and coonery. On the other hand, if he’s really having a breakdown, I want him to finally get the help he needs.

Now, I’m sure everyone noticed the “finally” I wrote in the last sentence of the previous paragraph. I worded it that way because I’ve always been a firm believer that Kanye has never been the same since his mother, Donda West, died. Before her untimely passing in 2007, he was at the top of the world, man. He was, by far, the biggest rapper in the world and his momentum was only increasing. However; when his mother passed away due to complications from plastic surgery, his entire demeanor changed. While he’s still managed to release plenty of culture-shifting music, his songs were ultimately accompanied by Taylor Swift shenanigans, wrestling matches with paparazzi and countless rants. As time went on, he started to become a caricature of himself and began to look nothing like the musician who changed the course of music. Frankly, for me personally, it was sad, and annoying, to watch. I mean, Kanye’s in my Top 3, man, regardless of genre. That’s how much his music has meant to me.

So, with all of that being said, I’m at a crossroads when it comes to the news that Kanye was hospitalized. Apparently, he’s suffering from stress and exhaustion, and was placed on a psychiatric hold. According to reports, Kanye’s doctor called 911 after a disturbance at his home in Los Angeles. He was said to be acting “erratically,” but real shit, in his world, what does that even mean, son? Needless to say, he’s had a wild couple of days lately, which included praising Trump, taking random shots at Beyoncé and canceling the rest of his Saint Pablo tour. All I know is, as long as this latest episode isn’t a Kardashian-esque publicity stunt, I really hope Kanye is taking the time to get himself right. Otherwise, this just enhances my need for him to go far, far, faaaaar away. No more circuses and no more cartoons, man. Now, since I’m one of the biggest champions of ensuring mental stability, I really hope Kanye is taking a moment to address whatever is lying underneath the surface.

In the end, I’m sure I’ve wavered a few times in this post. Like I’ve said before, I’m over the typical Kanye West bullshit. However; like Kid Cudi, if this latest situation actually leads to him improving himself, then I’m all for it. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see, son. Let’s bury the foolishness for good, though, man. Good day.

Joe Budden Can Still Rap His A*s Off!

Ok, ok, ok, let’s get all of the common Joe Budden narratives out of the way, son. He’s irrelevant, he’s a one-hit wonder, he’s a crackhead and he’s a woman beater who only dates video models. Did I nail all of the social media digs against him? Ok, good. Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, I must say, I’ve always been a Joe Budden fan. I know, I know, people think I’m in the minority here. However; if folks would get past the words of Twitter and Instagram trolls, they’d realize something easily noticeable: that man can rap his ass off. With that being said, his new album, Rage & The Machine, is exactly what I wanted to hear from this dude.

Now, when I say I’ve always been a Joe Budden fan, I should probably provide some context. I started peeping his skill back when he used to rhyme with Fabolous and Paul Cain on DJ Clue mixtapes. As a matter of fact, it was this particular freestyle that made me a fan. When homie said “I get around, like to travel, like to move my pivot,” I was sold, son. I mean, I’m an East Coast dude, man. We’re all about the punchlines, something that’s painfully missing from Rap right now. In any case, after hearing all of the freestyles, hearing “Focus,” and ultimately, “Pump It Up,” I had to buy his debut album. That’s right, I purchased his debut album, son. Big whoop, wanna fight about it? Moving on, on that album, I used to rock out a lot to “Pusha Man” and wax poetically with my bro Fabian about the virtues of “10 Mins.

So, before I bore everyone out there about my unceasing fandom, it’s safe to say, I’ve been there for the entire ride. I’ve been there for his shelved second album, The Growth. I’ve been there for the Mood Muzik mixtape series. I’ve been there for the Slaughterhouse lyrical exercises. Simply put, I’ve been there, man. However; as much as I enjoy the “emo” records he’s known for these days, he seemed to forget about being the punchline juggernaut he came into the game as. With that being said, Rage & The Machine came along at the right time. With araabMUZIK cooking up nothing but heat on production, the original Joey is back. Needless to say, I’ve been running this album back a lot since it came out on Friday. As of right now, my favorite track on the album is “Idols.” I mean, they flipped a Tevin Campbell sample, son. Tevin Campbell, bro… Exactly.

All in all, people can say whatever they want to, man. I have no problems with giving an artist their just due. While I can’t forgive Joe for his fuckery on Love & Hip Hop and have a few questions about his checkered history with women, I’m still a fan of his lyrics. At least that part of him is infallible, son. Good day.

P.S. Drake took a shot at Kid Cudi while he’s in rehab, but ain’t want no static with Joe. Sucker shit, son. I’m out.

Drake Is A Certified Clown

So, let me start this post off by saying I’m a fan of Drake’s music. While I believe his Views album is nothing more than weed plate material, when it comes to his overall discography, I rock out with most of Drake’s records. Now, I feel like I needed to give that disclaimer because any time someone criticizes someone else, they’re automatically labeled a “hater.” With that being said, after hearing the bullshit he said about Kid Cudi on “Two Birds, One Stone,” Drake is looking like a real bozo to me right now. As a man who’s very recently written about mental illness, the fact that Drake would poke fun at Cudi’s situation says A TON about him. All I know is, I’ve lost a lot of respect for him because of this.

Ok, yes, I know Cudi dissed Drake first. Hell, I even wrote about that situation on this blog too. However; at some point, we all need to be responsible. Even though Cudi technically drew first blood, once the entire situation was put in its proper perspective, Drake should’ve let this silly feud go. Frankly, to me, it doesn’t matter when Drake recorded the song. If he recorded it BEFORE he knew about Cudi’s issues, he should’ve kept that record to himself. If he recorded the song AFTER he knew about Cudi’s issues, then he’s a pure asshole, man. Either way, there was a much better way to approach this circumstance and Drake did NOT do the right thing.

Now, I may be getting ahead of myself here. Let me actually tell everyone what Drake said about Cudi. During his extended verse on the aforementioned song, Drake uttered the following words:

You were the man on the moon,

Now you just go through your phases,

Life of the angry and famous,

Rap like I know I’m the greatest,

Then give you the tropical flavors,

Still never been on hiatus,

You stay xanned and perked up,

So when reality set in you don’t gotta face it.

Really, Aubrey? Fucking really, man? Just from reading these lyrics, it seems very apparent that he was aware of Cudi’s illness and wrote this on purpose. So, that basically makes him a worthless piece of shit. I mean, where are his people, son? No one in the studio told him this was a sucker move? Mental illness isn’t a fucking punchline, man! On the real, since he’s the biggest rapper in the world, I bet he just figured his fans would ride with his fuck shit. However; as social media is currently showcasing, people aren’t cool with his stance here. Even if he has a legitimate gripe with Cudi, there are so many other angles to take. He could talk about Cudi’s music. He could talk about Cudi’s strained relationship with Kanye West. Shit, he could even talk about how Cudi’s show, How To Make It In America, got cancelled years back. But nooooo, Drake decided to be a dick and kick a man below the belt. What a fucking clown, son.

In the end, I simply can’t respect what Drake did here. This is Rap music, son. Rap music, bro. In the grand scheme of things, it’s not that serious, man. However; mental illness is serious. Making jokes about someone’s well-being is not what real men do. Then again, what can I expect from someone who’s made an entire career out of being the male version of Taylor Swift? I’m out. Good day.

The F*cked Up Psyches Of Kid Cudi & LC

So, while I don’t often divulge information about myself, the latest news about Kid Cudi has inspired me to open up. Honestly, any time I hear stories about depression and/or suicide, it hits close to home for me. With that being said, I’m glad to see Cudi be proactive about his mental health. Ultimately, I just wish more of us in the Black community will do the same.

Now, reports came out earlier this week about Cudi checking himself into rehab. Going further, he cited depression and suicidal thoughts as the catalyst for this move. This particular story came on the heels of him lashing out at Kanye West and Drake, in conjunction with reports about the threats he made to his daughter’s mother. While I originally joked about the rap beef portion of all of this, it’s clear now that Cudi is truly having issues at the moment. At this point, I feel like someone such as myself should’ve seen the signs.

To be clear, I’m personalizing this because I understand what Kid Cudi is feeling. While our lives may be very different, the mentality is not. Keeping it 100, I suffer from clinical depression. In addition, when I’m at my low points, I also have issues with alcohol. Unfortunately, I’ve used booze as a coping mechanism for my mental state at various times. To be truthful, I’ve had two really dark patches in my life: my junior year of college and the first year of my oldest son’s life. During the former time period, I was dealing with family (daddy) issues, living conditions back home, failing a couple of subjects and being at odds with my former girlfriend. During the latter time period, I was unhappy with my career, struggling as a new dad and at odds with my then-girlfriend/now-fiancée. In both scenarios, I was a very destructive human being. While the people around me loved me, they couldn’t necessarily help me out of my despair.

To that end, I don’t think the Black community talks enough about mental health. Until this day, I don’t believe my mother even believes I suffer from depression. I mean, damn what the doctors say, right? Honestly, I’ve heard the phrase “man up” from more people than I’d like to admit. With everything Black people have to deal with in this country, we don’t give each other the space to not be ok. Fuck it, though, man. Sometimes we are NOT ok. No one should ever be afraid to admit that. The only way to truly improve a situation is to first acknowledge that it even exists. So, hats off to Kid Cudi for doing that. I’d much rather him take this action than spiral out of control. He’s way too young to implode.

In the end, I want everyone reading this to be honest with themselves. I want everyone to ask themselves “am I alright?” If the answer is no, there’s no need to panic. There are therapists to talk to and medicine to take, only if necessary. Ultimately, the sooner we all know how we’re really doing, the sooner we can figure out where we’re really going. Good day.
