Should I Find A Blogging Niche?

Ok, today’s post is going to be a little different, son. Now, anyone who knows me knows that I live in my head. Like, I spend a GREAT deal of time just analyzing any and everything, man. With all of that being said, the future of this blog has been on my mind for a while now. So, I want to pose a question to everyone out there: should I find a blogging niche?

Now, as a quick history lesson, I started this blog back in 2011. At the time, I was experiencing SEVERE writer’s block with my music and I wasn’t sure if I was ever going to perform again. In any case, while I was trying to figure out my next move, my then-girlfriend/now-wife made a suggestion: start a blog. Since I’ve always been a highly-opinionated person, she figured that it would be a cool endeavor to undertake. So, I Can’t Be Famous was born. All I can say is, I never really expected anyone to read it. Needless to say, I’m actually shocked that I have an audience at all, fam.

Moving on, despite the fact that the blog does fairly well in terms of readership, I’m actively thinking about growth. Yes, I’ve been able to amass a pretty cool audience by being random, but I wonder if a niche can push me even further. Now, if that’s the case, then what should that niche be? That’s where all of the good folks reading this come in. Frankly, I’ve talked about A LOT of topics on this blog. If I chose to veer in a certain direction, what would people prefer? Basically, I’m just thinking out loud and trying to gauge the community. So, holla at me!

In the end, there’s nothing else to say, bruh. Ultimately, I’m just out here trying to figure out the future, son. By and by, I value the opinion of the brethren who read this. So, let me know what’s good, man. Talk to me. Let’s go! LC out.

What A Difference A Decade Makes

So, here we are, son. It’s 2020, baby! Thankfully, I’ve made it to another year and another decade, man. All I can say is, the last ten years have been a wild ass ride, fam. In any case, I’d like to consider this post a tale of two photos. On the real, the smile may be the same, but the LC from the beginning of the decade is DRASTICALLY different than the LC from the end of the decade. Shit, let’s get into it, brethren.

First, let’s speak about the LC on the left. Real talk, I was a fucking train wreck at the beginning of the decade. At the time, I was a brand new father, struggling with my career, dealing with previously-undiagnosed depression, self-medicating with Jack Daniel’s and stepping out on my then-girlfriend/now-wife. Keeping it a buck, it was my lady who held up a mirror to my shenanigans. Based on my issues, she had every right to leave me. In fact, she did for a period of time. But, I understood that I needed to become a better person. Not for her, but for me. The truth is, being the best me would ultimately lead to being the best companion and father.

Moving on, let’s talk about that dude on the right. Now, this LC doesn’t have to hide behind a fake smile. Currently, I’m a husband who’s fathering multiple little people, working the best job I’ve ever had, performing my music again, blogging and drinking socially (instead of trying to drown out the voices in my head). All I know is, this transition didn’t happen overnight. Instead, making small steps at the beginning of the decade paved the way for how my decade ended. All in all, life is fucking beautiful right now, son.

In the end, I didn’t write this post to just talk about me, man. Ultimately, I want my story to be a lesson to anyone who’s reading this. By and by, folks don’t have to wait for a new year or a new decade to make a change. At the end of the day, if there are improvements that anyone wants to make, then start now, fam. In addition, don’t be afraid of slow progress. The fact is, slow progress is still better than no progress, bruh. So, let’s all be better together, brethren. My wife always says “there’s no such thing as stuck” and I had to learn to believe her, son. Let’s start this decade off right, people. Yessir! I love you all! LC out.

P.S. I’m super proud of the fact that I look damn near the same after ten years, son. Shit, Black don’t crack, baby! Well, besides a few years in the middle when I was unnecessarily fat. But, we don’t talk about those times, fam. Good day.

My Weekly Column With Randi B.

Ok, I’m going to try and keep this post short today, son. Now, I’m fully aware of the fact that I say this a lot and never deliver, fam. However, I’m trying to be a man of my word today. In any case, I want to let everyone in on some good news: I’m now doing a weekly guest column on a fellow blogger’s site. So, I need everyone to head over to Randi Bryant‘s blog and support the both of us, bruh.

Now, real quick, here’s how this is going to work, son. So, on Friday‘s, I’m going to be sharing some of my shenanigans with Randi’s audience. With that being said, I want to give her a MAJOR shout-out for allowing me to write my thoughts on her platform. Look, being a blogger myself, it’s a big step letting another writer in. With that being said, I’ll do my best to not engage in any unnecessary tomfoolery, man.

In the end, it’s very simple, fam. Ultimately, I want everyone to go support Randi’s blog. Now, I’m not just saying that because I’m contributing, bruh. Real talk, there’s a lot of great content that speaks to the experiences of Black women and the Black community, in general. So, do the right thing, son. Let’s get down with the getdown, man. That is all. LC out.

I Finally Got Hit By The Facebook Algorithm

Ah, Facebook. I mean, what can I say about this website, son? It can be extremely useful and the Devil at the same time, man. All in all, Facebook has been an integral part of my blog’s success since I started writing in 2010. In any case, after numerous changes over the years, I’m finally starting to get hit by Mark Zuckerberg‘s constant updates. With that being said, I’m not exactly sure what that means for the future of my blog.

Now, let’s be honest, fam. On the real, I shouldn’t have to explain the heat that Facebook has received over recent years. Frankly, given the disproportionate amount of “fake news” that’s been spread across the site, Zuckerberg and company have had their feet put to the fire, bruh. In response, the company has made sweeping changes to how content is curated. Namely, it’s more interested in interactions between individuals than promoting businesses and websites. Obviously, I fall into the latter, son.

Look, I wouldn’t be me if I wasn’t transparent, man. Real talk, in the early days of my blog, Facebook was responsible for about 60% of my traffic, fam. The way I see it, I wouldn’t have a following if it wasn’t for the site, bruh. Thankfully, those early years have helped me build a base that continues to support me. However, I’m starting to notice a massive drop-off in “reach,” son.

Shit, let’s talk about this “reach,” man. Basically, Facebook allows users with a dedicate page to see how many people were “reached” by their respective posts. Now, up until a few months ago, I was used to seeing hundreds/thousands of people “reached” by the content I was posting. Moving on, does anybody want to guess how many people “saw” my post yesterday? Eight, fam. Eight! So, out of all of my followers and all of the people in my Friends List, Facebook only showed my shit to eight people, bruh. Needless to say, I was fucking tiiiiiiight, son.

Honestly, I can actually point to the exact day the shift happened, man. So, back on May 15th, I wrote an article about the tomfoolery of the abortion laws in Alabama and Georgia. Anyway, Facebook told me it was “reached” by 1,078 people. The next day, I made a post about the Wu-Tang Clan documentary on Showtime. Facebook told me it was “reached” by 11 people. Ever since then, my shit has been drastically off, fam. In the span of a day, my engagement on that site decreased by 99%.

Thankfully, I have a dedicated fan base who’s been riding with me for years. So, my actual views are as strong as they’ve always been. Keeping it a buck, my original fans are the ones who are keeping my shit afloat, bruh. The problem is, it’s been harder for me to attract new people. But, LC will figure out a way around the bullshit, son. Hell, it’s impossible for me to walk away from shit that I care about, man.

In the end, that’s enough rambling from me for today. fam. Ultimately, I just want to thank everyone who’s held me down from the beginning. By and by, it’s a great thing that a lot of the legwork was done in the earlier days, bruh. All I know is, if I were starting a new blog today, I don’t even know how I would gain traction in this new system, son. At the end of the day, it’s a good thing that I don’t have to worry about that part of it, man. That is all. LC out.

P.S. I’m also not falling for the Facebook gaffle of paying to increase my “reach.” Fuck that, Zuckerberg! Fuck all of that, fam. Good day.

My 500th Post

So, I won’t lie, son. I don’t really have anything weighing on my mind today, man. Well, that’s not true at all. I mean, I have a million things on my mind, but nothing that I feel the need to write about, fam. Instead, I just want to take this time to thank any and everybody who supports this raggedy ass blog, bruh. Shit, as of today, I’ve reached 500 posts, brethren. Real talk, that’s a lot of fucking writing, folks. All I can say is, I wouldn’t have kept this up if people didn’t hold me down. Hell, every time I’ve wanted to quit, someone would randomly give me a word that I needed to hear. With that being said, I just want to acknowledge the fact that I don’t take any of it for granted. In the end, I’m going to do my best to make sure my shit ain’t trash, people. Love y’all! That is all. LC out.

What Do Y’all Want From This Site?

So, today’s post is going to be a little bit different, son. Basically, I’d like to have a direct dialogue with my audience, man. With that being said, I want to ask a simple question: what does everyone want to see on this site? Now, at this point, I’ve spent a number of years just rambling about whatever crossed my mind. On the real, I’m super thankful for everybody who holds me down, fam. In any case, I’ve never really taken the time to cater to the needs of my supporters. Well, that changes today, bruh!

All in all, I’d like to hear from all of the fine folks out there. So, what kind of topics would people like to see me touch on? Is there a different format that I should consider embracing? Feel free to let me know on any of my platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or right here on this site. Side bar, my handle is “icbfdotcom” on all of those social media sites. Thanks a lot, brethren. LC out.

P.S. Shout-out to my wife Triciah for giving me the idea to do this. Love ya, babe!

A Thank You Post To My Readers

So, I’m going to keep this post reeeeeally short today, son. Basically, I want to give a shout-out to everyone who reads this blog, man. Being real, I have no idea why anyone pays attention to my random ramblings. However; I’m super appreciative for all of the support, fam. As of right now, thanks to everyone out there, this has been the most successful year of my blogging career. Side bar, is this a career? I mean, all I do is talk shit online, bruh. Then again, plenty of people make a living doing the same exact thing. In any case, because of the love I’ve been getting, I’m hyped to keep the journey going, folks. With that being said, let’s keep the proceedings proceeding, people. Viva la internet thuggery! LC out.
