Justice Is All We Ask For

So, let me get straight to the point, son. Look, it’s always refreshing when a murderous cop gets what he/she deserves, man. On the real, I feel like naysayers have always gotten the Black Lives Matter movement wrong. Listen, Black people aren’t only concerned with crime when it’s perpetrated by a White person. Frankly, all we want is equal justice under the law, fam. With that being said, I’m ecstatic that Roy Oliver was found guilty of murdering Jordan Edwards.

Now, for those who may have forgot, back in April of 2017, Oliver, a Balch Springs police officer, shot and killed Edwards. Side note, I’m judging anyone who doesn’t remember this story, bruh. Seriously. Anyway, the shooting occurred after Edwards left a house party with his brothers and a couple of friends. On the flip side, Oliver and his squad arrived on the scene after receiving a call about shots being fired. From there, while approaching Edwards’ car, Oliver shot the teen through the window, THEN lied and claimed that the driver tried to run him over. In any case, after his trial, Oliver was found guilty of murder.

Ok, let’s be clear, son. Oliver’s conviction was definitely the right decision. I mean, anybody with a brain could see that this man abused his authority. The problem is, officers like Oliver are almost NEVER punished for their crimes, man. THAT’S the problem we have with the justice system, fam. Listen, if I shot and killed somebody today, best believe my Black ass is going to prison, bruh. But, when an officer does it, we have to fucking beg for the law to do its cotdamn job. All in all, THIS is what the BLM movement has always been about, brethren: accountability.

In the end, I have nothing else to say, son. Ultimately, good riddance to Roy Oliver, man. By and by, I hope he doesn’t drop the soap, fam. All I know is, a dirty cop like him is going to have a hard time behind those walls. At the end of the day, that’s exactly what he deserves, bruh. Rest In Peace, Jordan Edwards. LC out.

A Letter To Jordan Edwards

Dear Jordan Edwards,

*Sigh* It pains me to know that you’ll never get to live a full life. It pains me to know that you’ve become another victim of tyrannical policing. It pains me to know that your friends had to witness your demise. It pains me to know that another family has to mourn the loss of a loved one. At this point, I feel physically weak, man. I’m exhausted from watching innocent Black people lose their lives over nothing. I’m tired of our community being terrorized by a system that hates us. All I can say is, your life mattered, Jordan.

Listen, on the real, I can’t judge you for being a 15-year-old at a rowdy party. Hell, I had my first sip of alcohol during my sophomore of high school. Keep in mind, I was on a boarding school-funded trip to China when I got shit-faced on Georgi Vodka with some of my friends. With that being said, I could never criticize you for having a night out, man. Then again, when I read that you and your friends didn’t even drink at that party, I learned that you were even better than I was at your age.

All I know is, your story is yet another example of the horror that Black people constantly deal with. You left a party that was supposedly getting out of hand and you ended up dead. I mean, it’s fucking baffling, fam! Of COURSE, the police had to claim that you and your friends were driving in an “aggressive manner” to justify your death. As if any spin story could rationalize shooting an unarmed teenager in the head. Fuck, man, when is the bullshit going to stop?! My only hope is that you rest in peace while the cops collapse under the weight of their own lies.

In the end, I really don’t know what else to say, Jordan. Your death hurts. All of these deaths hurt. I… I’ve got nothing else, man. Just rest well, Jordan. Rest well.

Sincerely,

A man who’s running out of ways to honor victims like you
