We Have To Be Honest About XXXTentacion

So, I won’t lie, son. I’m fairly certain that there’s going to be a number of people upset with this post, man. But, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t keep it a buck, fam. With that being said, we all have to be honest about XXXTentacion. Now, to be clear, I’m not here to tell anybody to stop playing his songs. I mean, music has always been subjective, bruh. He might not have been my favorite artist, but that doesn’t take away from what others felt about him. In any case, we all have to call a spade a spade, brethren. On the real, XXX had a VERY problematic history with women and violence.

Ok, for those who missed it, Pitchfork just put out a damning report on XXX. Now, based on secretly recorded audio, XXX seemed to admit to a number of egregious crimes, namely the repeated assault of his ex-girlfriend. Listen, the domestic violence allegations against him aren’t new, son. Shit, I’ve mentioned these exact stories on more than one occasion. However, XXX always claimed innocence and even pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. In any case, it’s not a good look to now hear him blatantly say that he started beating his ex up after she supposedly cheated on him.

To make matters worse, that wasn’t the only crime that XXX copped to. On the tape, he also alluded to a stabbing incident that happened in Florida. Now, based on the original reports, three people were stabbed at Deerfield Beach. Instead, XXX insisted that eight people were actually cut. On top of that, he talked about slicing a former manager. All in all, this dude was on tape just admitting to all sorts of wild shit, man. The way I see it, he was a clear example of “hurt people hurt people.” Hell, he’d clearly gone through some things in life and foolishly took it out on the outside world.

In the end, I’m not here to spit on a man’s grave. But, I also feel like hero worship causes people to dilute the truth. Ultimately, XXX was a troubled fucking dude, fam. By and by, folks can’t properly tell his story without also mentioning his (clear) flaws, bruh. Regardless, he still didn’t deserve to die the way he did. At the end of the day, he was still young as fuck, son. He could’ve eventually fashioned himself into a better human being. Alas, we’ll never know, man. That is all. LC out.

P.S. Despite everything I’ve just wrote, Vic Mensa was out of line for dissing XXX during the cypher at the BET Hip Hop Awards. Look, it’s one thing to call out a person’s bad behavior, son. It’s another thing to say “we all know you won’t live that long” and speak about wanting to catch fade with DJ Akademiks at XXX’s eulogy. Nah, that’s gross, man. Listen, I’m actually a fan of Mensa’s music, but he needs to stop all of the goofy shit, fam. Just make records, bruh. Good day.

So… Eminem Is Pissed, Huh?

So, let me begin this post by saying that Eminem is my number-three favorite rapper of all time. Side note, Jay-Z will always be number-one to me. Also, Kanye West is my number-two, but everyone knows how disappointed I am in him, son. With that being said, allow me to keep it a buck for a second, man. *Sigh* In my eyes, every Em album after The Eminem Show has been trash, fam. That’s right, I’m talking about Encore, Relapse, Recovery, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 AND Revival. I mean, Em will always be able to rap, but those albums just didn’t do it for me, bruh. All I know is, I’m not alone in this assessment. In any case, based on his surprise Kamikaze album, Em took the Revival criticism personally, folks.

Look, I’m going to be brief, son. Eminem disses EVERYBODY on Kamikaze! Like, EVERYBODY, man! Frankly, I don’t have the brain power to link every name to the specific song they’re mentioned in. All I can say is, there are a laundry list of digs on this record, fam. Shit, just off of memory, I remember hearing him diss Donald Trump, Drake, Charlamagne Tha God, Joe Budden, DJ Akademiks, Tyler, the Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Machine Gun Kelly, Lil Yachty, Lil Pump, Lil Xan and Lord Jamar. Hell, I know there’s more, but my brain can only hold so much information, bruh.

As it stands, most of these disses revolve around either hating Mumble Rap or hating anyone who didn’t like Revival. Listen, Em is my guy, but Revival was wack, son. Real talk, instead of dwelling on that, he should’ve just focused on his next effort. Then again, maybe he needed this kind of energy, man. On the real, this is the best Eminem album is years, fam. For whatever reason, an angry Em over Mike Will Made It and Boi-1da beats is a good thing, bruh. It forces Em to switch up the flow he’s been using for the last damn decade.

In the end, I’ll take it, son. Ultimately, this won’t go down as his best work, but it’s a welcome surprise to me, man. By and by, I wasn’t expecting anything from an Em album. At the end of the day, it’s good to hear him with some semblance of passion, fam. For the record, though, Revival still sucks, Em. Sorry not sorry. LC out.

P.S. It’s super weird that Em threw shots at Drake when “Not Alike” is a BLATANT rip-off of “Look Alive.” Listen, I know that Tay Keith produced both songs, but damn, son! At least TRY to hide the bite, man! Good day.

How Does Spotify Choose Who To Ban?

So, before I begin, let me make one thing clear: I am in no way caping for XXXTentacion or R. Kelly in this post. Frankly, if both of them got the Thanos Infinity Gauntlet treatment, I’d be perfectly fine with that. In any case, I’m only bringing them up because Spotify‘s new “Hate Content & Hateful Conduct” policy is a little weird, son. I mean, why were those two particular artists picked out? In addition, what does that mean for other similarly-accused artists? Lastly, will any of these changes actually stick?

Ok, for those who missed it, here’s what’s going on. So, based on their new policy, Spotify is removing the music of R. Kelly and XXXTentacion from their playlists. Now, their songs will still be available on the streaming service, but they won’t be visibly promoted. Apparently, this is a way for them to choose who they support, based on their “values.”

Now, in theory, I see what Spotify is trying to do here. Look, both XXXTentacion and Kelly have been accused of some heinous deeds, man. Shit, XXXTentacion has had a myriad of legal issues, including the alleged assault of a pregnant woman. In addition, we ALL know what Kelly has been accused of, fam. Now, here’s my thing: why were these two artists selected? Hell, if we’re being real here, A TON of musicians have been accused of some dastardly shit, bruh. So, where do we draw the line exactly? Is Spotify going to remove EVERY artist that’s been accused of something? If so, it’s going to be SUPER quiet for all of their playlists, son. Keeping it a buck, a lot of these musicians are just terrible people, folks.

Side note, can Black people NOT pull the race card in this circumstance? On the real, I HATE when our community does that, man. Look, I just saw Akademiks try that shit on social media. Listen, can we not use racism as a way to protect abusers, rapists and murderers? Ok, yes, I know there’s a double standard when it comes to justice. However, I’m not about to march or take a stand for a certified dirtbag, fam. It just is what it is, bruh.

In the end, I’m just trying to understand what the end game is, son. Ultimately, Spotify has to come up with a clear methodology on how to choose who to ban, man. Also, I wonder if they can even maintain this initiative long-term. By and by, I’m not necessarily mad at them for removing XXXTentacion and R. Kelly. At the end of the day, I just want to know how far they’ll try to take this and if it’ll actually work. That is all. LC out.
