So, I’m going to try and keep this post short today. On the real, I’m just here to tell Katie Couric to knock off the nonsense. The fact of the matter is, she tried to press a narrative onto Denzel Washington and he wasn’t having it, son. All in all, she needed to lay off of the senseless fear and actually internalize what Washington was telling her.
Ok, for those who missed it, Couric was recently a guest on the Everything Iconic with Danny Pellegrino podcast. Now, during the show, she talked about her experience interviewing Washington for Dateline during his The Manchurian Candidate press run with Meryl Streep. Anyway, at one point, Couric thought it was a good idea to ask Washington about politics. Specifically, she asked him if Hollywood stars should “stick to acting.” Side note, that question sounded to me like a “nicer version” of Laura Ingraham‘s “shut up and dribble” comments. But, that’s neither here nor there, man.
Now, after being asked that question, Washington stated that he’s “not a Hollywood folk.” In fact, he asserted that he’s a “human being” whose “job is acting.” From there, Couric tried to find all kinds of colorful ways to ask her condescending ass question. Each time, Washington shut her ass down and proclaimed that he’s not the monolith that she’s trying to portray him as. Needless to say, Couric didn’t like this because now she’s using words like “shaken” and “uncomfortable” to describe her interaction with Washington.
Look, I can’t even explain how much I hate shit like this, fam. Like, don’t paint him as the aggressor because he didn’t entertain these stupid ass probes. The truth is, she tried to generalize people of his ilk and he wasn’t going for it. All in all, instead of playing the victim, she should’ve read the room and just kept it pushing. Frankly, Washington didn’t do anything disrespectful. Real talk, he saw the narrative that she was trying to create and he shut that shit down. Plain and simple.
In the end, someone needs to tell Katie Couric to relax, bruh. Ultimately, she tried to push an agenda and it backfired. By and by, Denzel Washington wasn’t for the games, son. Maybe next time, she’ll just ask an actor about their film and not try to diminish their supposed beliefs. *Sigh* We can all peep those microaggressions, Couric. Go somewhere else with that bullshit. That is all. LC out.
