Black Thought Is Way Too Good At Rapping

So, the EP is real, son. The collaboration between Black Thought and 9th Wonder is actually real, man. All I know is, even though the EP has only five songs, it’s EXACTLY what I want to hear from both of these gentlemen. Now, as expected, 9th holds down the production side. However, it’s still awe-inspiring how fucking great Thought is at rapping, fam. All in all, damn near EVERYONE’s favorite rapper isn’t fucking with this dude, bruh.

Ok, for those who missed it, Thought and 9th put out Streams of Thought, Vol. 1 last Friday. Apparently, this EP is the first in a series between the two legends. Anyway, four of the five songs are produced by 9th, and one is produced by Khrysis. Basically, the EP is a collaboration between Thought and 9th’s Soul Council. In any case, despite only being 17 minutes, Thought manages to pack an insane amount of vocabulary in each verse, son. Like, I’ve never heard a rapper say a name like Dostoyevsky which such ease, man. Keeping it a buck, there’s NO WAY a person can absorb everything that Thought says in one listen, fam. Frankly, this EP needs to be on repeat to catch all of the gems, bruh.

Listen, a rapper is really good at rapping when I don’t even notice that there aren’t really any hooks in the songs, son. Somehow, Thought is getting better and I don’t understand it, man. Like, how can one man be so damn good for so damn long, fam? For reference, The Roots‘s debut album, Organix, came out in May of 1993. Meaning, Thought has been an upper, upper echelon emcee for 25 years, bruh. *Sigh* What the fuck else needs to be said, folks? Not a cotdamn thing!

In the end, salute to that man, Black Thought. Salute to 9th Wonder, son. Ultimately, even though I’m a fan of today’s music, I’m still hyped that lyricists like Thought still exist, man. By and by, we should continue to applaud and champion emcees who’ve mastered the art of rhyming, fam. At the end of the day, that’s what Hip-Hop was founded on, bruh: saying the dopest shit possible. That is all. LC out.
