D’Angelo

Ok, I know I’ve written a lot of articles about D’Angelo. No seriously, I’ve written a lot of articles about this dude. Besides Prince, Michael Archer is my favorite artist ever. Ever! With that being said, I keep hoping he’ll drop some new music to satisfy my fiendish behavior. Instead, however, I’m beginning to believe he simply enjoys toying with us. Maybe he’d rather show up to a concert for 5 seconds, perform some amazing shit and then disappear into the abyss. Well you know what, I can’t take it anymore. I’m no longer supporting D’Angelo.

When I heard about D’Angelo’s 2-man show with ?uestlove at Brooklyn Bowl recently, I got excited and then depressed. Once again, homie comes out of the wilderness to get everyone hyped, only to vanish shortly after. Despite the fact he said his album was almost done, I very skeptically looked at that announcement with the Cam Face. The “I’ll believe it when I see it while traveling in a UFO” face. I want to believe the news, but at this point, I should know better. I convince myself I should just be happy he’s playing music again. That gives me some sort of misguided comfort. But enough is enough. He will no longer be the subject of my stan-hood, because he doesn’t deserve it. Fuck him for all of the time he’s wasted. That’s right, I said it.

In the end, everything I just said in this post is complete bullshit. I will be at his next shows, I will continue to play his old music and I will continue to impatiently wait for his new album. That’s what addicts do, right? Right. In any case, you can check out some footage from his Brooklyn Bowl show below. Good day.

Disclaimer: Yes, that is actually a current picture of Michael Archer. As opposed to this

These are the times I’m thankful for the existence of ?uestlove. Well, besides that whole “best drummer alive” role he maintains as part of The Roots. Sidebar, everyone needs to go get their new album, undun, right now. No, I mean right now! They’ve officially got another classic in their discography. In any case, because of ?uest’s recent interviews, I’m actually starting to believe D’Angelo is alive and coming out with a new album. Needless to say, if you know anything about me, or have read this site before, you already know I’m FUCKING AMPED!

According to recent reports, D’Angelo is embarking on a tour of Europe, beginning in January. At first, I wasn’t too hyped about the news because it still didn’t seem real enough to me. But when ?uest told Pitchfork about Pino Palladino signing on to play bass and Chris Dave signing on to play drums, my “kid in a candy store” meter went through the roof. To add to the excitement, he confirmed D’Angelo’s album is “97% done” and only missing a couple of lyrics. I don’t think you understand how incredible this is. I’m trying to keep my excitement in check, but fuck that son, this album needs to drop ASAP.

I’m sure I could keep rambling about this, but I’ll spare you for now. All I know is, 2012 can’t come soon enough. I rarely buy music these days, but I’ll be that dude waiting outside the store at crackhead hours to get this record. Oh wait, I just remembered iTunes exists. In any case, this better be real son. If not, ?uestlove, I’m coming down to Jimmy Fallon to cause a scene. You’ve been warned.
