So I read André 3000‘s recent interview with GQ Magazine and couldn’t help but get pissed off. For a man who’s already one of the dopest lyricists and musicians ever, his lack of committal to new music is infuriating. To me, it seems as if he only mentions music because he knows his fans are impatiently waiting. Now hopefully I’m wrong, but after reading this interview, I’ve given up on ever hearing new music from him or OutKast.
To understand why I’m so jaded, I’d like to point you to one quote: “…I think I’m planning to do a solo project.” This statement comes right after he refutes the news of a new OutKast album on the horizon. So let me get this straight, you won’t do a new Kast album with Big Boi, yet you can’t even confirm whether or not you’re doing a solo album? What the fuck André?! Now if he just came out and said he wasn’t inspired, I’d be disappointed, but at least I’d understand. I can’t take the constant “maybe he will, maybe he won’t” charade. From now on, I refuse to get my hopes up about any André 3000 news unless it’s a new song. Other than that, I’m putting my hands over my ears, closing my eyes and screaming out “I can’t hear you.”
If your man refuses to put out new music, I’ll just continue supporting Big Boi’s solo career and play Goodie Mob‘s “Black Ice” if I want to hear vintage André. This is a sad day in Hip-Hop.
