Justice For Trayvon?

So I’m sure we all know by now George Zimmerman is currently in custody down in Florida. He’s being charged with 2nd-degree murder, which is the highest charge possible when there’s no grand jury. With all of the media coverage and national unrest, the question is: will there actually be justice for Trayvon Martin?

Now I’ll be the first to admit, I’ve gone hammer on Zimmerman before. I still have a hard time believing his self-defense story, mostly because of his biased 911 call and the fact he followed an unarmed teenager. With that being said, I can actually believe he didn’t pursue Trayvon with the intent to kill him. So a 2nd-degree murder charge fits. To be honest, Zimmerman is just a pawn in a much larger issue. Regardless of whether he’s a racist bigot or an overzealous mall cop, America‘s fear of Black men is the reason it took so long for any action to be taken. If a Black man killed a White boy, you can’t tell me that dude wouldn’t have been held without bail from the jump. In addition, the “wheels of justice” are only turning because so many people are outraged. Do you honestly think anything would’ve been done without the public outcry and protests?

Only time can tell how this situation will play out. Truthfully, I just want the truth to come out so we can put this matter to rest. A dead boy can’t speak for himself, so hopefully the prosecution can. Then again, I don’t have much faith in the justice system. You can blame what happened with Rodney King, Amadou Diallo, Abner Louima, Sean Bell and Oscar Grant for that. Hopefully this case changes my mind, but pardon me if I’m still a little disillusioned. All I know is, if Zimmerman skates, there might be multi-racial rioting as opposed to just Black folks.

P.S. I heard the Zimmerman family is “devastated” by the charges brought against George. Cry me a fucking river. How do you think the Martin family feels? George is still living and breathing while Trayvon is resting prematurely in the ground. Given the circumstances, they should just keep their opinions to themselves.
